Give every interior message a clear role.

Reception, navigation, room identification, glazing and statutory information work best when they are planned as one coordinated interior system.

  • Reception and arrival hierarchy
  • Room and department schedule
  • Materials and fixing review
  • Live-site installation plan
01

Define the interior sign family

Begin with the spaces, audiences and messages that need to be supported. Reception branding, directories, room and department identification, directional signs, statutory information, glazing and staff-facing operational signs each serve a different purpose. Recording them in one location and message schedule establishes the complete scope, shows where sign types can share a visual language and prevents important functional information from becoming an afterthought.

02

Set the reception and arrival hierarchy

The reception sign should respond to the wall, sightline, lighting, brand artwork and scale of the arrival space. Material depth, finish, illumination, cable routes and fixing access all affect the final result. The wider arrival sequence also matters: building entry, reception point, directory and first direction should feel connected. Reviewing these elements together gives visitors a confident first step and keeps the feature sign practical to manufacture and maintain.

03

Coordinate rooms, departments and navigation

Room names, department names, numbering and arrows need a controlled source of truth. A message register can align directories, directional signs, doors and operational references, while sign layouts account for reading distance and the amount of information each location can carry. Repeatable templates make future personnel or room changes easier, and replaceable components can be planned where information is expected to change.

04

Integrate statutory, accessible and glazing information

Tactile and Braille signs, fire and safety messages, amenity identification, privacy bands and other glazing graphics may sit within the same interior. Their requirements, locations and artwork should be reviewed against the actual project rather than assumed from a generic template. Coordinating these items with the brand palette, architectural finishes and wayfinding hierarchy creates a more coherent environment while retaining the clarity of mandatory information.

05

Resolve fabrication and installation around the space

Substrates, paint finishes, services, concealed fixings, access equipment and protection of completed interiors influence how signs are built and installed. Site verification can confirm dimensions and fixing conditions before production. For occupied workplaces or live facilities, the installation plan should also cover access windows, noise, dust, public separation, removal of old signs, making good and a documented handover.

Internal signage formed part of Amazon's two-centre package.Across the Cranbourne and Ravenhall fulfilment centres, the internal scope included wayfinding, department and area identification, safety and operational signage. The complete external and internal program totalled 933 signs and was delivered during 2024 and 2025.View the Amazon project
