Establish the external identity and arrival sequence

The external package should make the site identifiable, then give vehicle and pedestrian direction where people begin moving through it. At Amazon's Cranbourne and Ravenhall fulfilment centres, the delivered scope included large building identification alongside vehicle and pedestrian direction. Treating those signs as one arrival sequence keeps the building name, site entries and movement information connected instead of designing each location in isolation.

Place safety and operational information where it is used

Entries, loading areas and operational movements create distinct information needs. The two Amazon fulfilment-centre packages included safety and operational signage across those external environments. A useful project schedule separates each sign by location, audience and purpose, allowing the site team to review identity, direction, safety and operational messages together before production.

Carry the system into internal wayfinding

Internal navigation needs to continue the logic established outside. At the Cranbourne and Ravenhall centres, Insigns delivered internal wayfinding plus department and area identification, safety signage and operational signage. The package supported staff, visitors and logistics activity across the two large facilities, giving each message a defined place within the wider signage system.

Coordinate a complete multi-site package

Insigns delivered 933 signs across the two Amazon fulfilment centres during 2024 and 2025. The scope covered external identity, vehicle and pedestrian direction, safety and operational information, internal wayfinding, and department and area identification. That project demonstrates the value of coordinating the complete sign family across locations rather than dividing external, internal and operational needs into unrelated packages.

Putting it into practice

A useful logistics-site brief brings the site plan, building entries, loading areas, vehicle and pedestrian movements, department names and operational messages into one location schedule. Insigns can then define the external identification, direction, safety, operational and internal wayfinding scope around the actual site. For Amazon, that coordinated approach covered 933 signs across two fulfilment centres in Cranbourne and Ravenhall during 2024 and 2025.
